Announcements Updated February 2008
- A future Phi? Congratulations to Janeen and Barrett Moore and big brother Bryce on the birth of their new baby girl,
Saige Josephine, on 2/5/2008 at 6:05 AM. Saige weighed 7 lbs, 9 oz. and is 20.5 inches.
- Healing thoughts and best wishes to Dottie Stowe. Dottie recently had a surgery but is now recovering. We hope to see
Dottie out and about soon!
- February event recap: 2/12 was the date for the annual Soup/Salad dinner, hosted by Carla Hudgins. The food was fantastic,
as always! We Alpha Phis can cook! Carla did a marvelous job decorating, as always. We also made jewelry this year--a new
twist on a great event.
- March core event: the March event will be a tea hosted by Mendy Chura on March 16. Bring the women of your life-daughters,
mothers, sisters, female friends!
- Bordeaux Buddies (movie club): with Janeen giving birth, Laura Kovacs will lend a hand in the interim by helping out
with the hosting responsibilities. After the holiday lull, we hope to get the movie group revitalized! As previously mentioned,
we'll start alternating locations-north (Northlake Mall) and south (Phillips Place at South Park) so that more can attend.
- The next Bordeaux Buddies night will be at Phillips Place on March 6.
- Ivy Circle (Young or Young at Heart club): Evelyn Wagner Hagood has organized some great events, the most recent being
Brixx and Charlotte Checkers hockey on Feb 7. The next event will be March 13 at her home for a night of cocktails, food,
and viewing of Cashmere Mafia and Lipstick Jungle. Powerful professional women unite for a night of Power Woman TV!
- Lollipop Sale: Lollipop sales start at the end of this month. I am putting out my cans this week at my local BB&T branches.
Contact Karen Jones if you can help. Volunteering is easy...all you do is take your can and pops to yoru assigned BB&T location.
Until Easter, you fill the cans and collect the money. It's that easy!
- Cupid's Cup 5K: Karen Jones was our sole proud volunteer to man the water station at the Cupid's Cup 5K race on 2/9.
Many heartfelt thanks to Karen for representing Alpha Phi at this event. Next year Alpha Phi will show up en force!
- Southeast Regional Conference update: from 2/8-2/10/08, several of us attended the Southeast Regional Conference in Virginia
Beach. This event provided valuable training for the collegiate chapters in the Southeast. Special recognition goes to Tracy
Hickman, Laura Kovacs, Megan Laraway, Evelyn Wagner Hagood for their work at the conference. Debbie Messner, Abby Basalyga,
and Megan Cecil also volunteer with collegiate chapters but were unable to attend.
- SE Conference AWARD: We were awarded the Excellence in Chapter Activity award at the conference. Woo Hoo!!!!
- Website Update: Website revamping/construction continues. Many thanks to Michelle Figueras and Becca Porteus for their
work on this (ongoing) project. Check out the site at www.charlottealphaphi.tripod.com .
- Extension Update: Great news about potential southeast extension opportunities! Alpha Phi has presented at Florida International
University and University of Alabama this month and will present at Georgia Tech coming up very soon. I will let you know
what happens!
